Processing Excel Files for NHF Import
- If there is only one copy of the file then make a copy to work on.
- Open the work file in Excel.
- Delete all of the header rows (if there are multiple tables then
do this for each table). - If there are multiple tables, then process each one separately or
copy and paste all of the rows into one table. If this file contains
duplicate entries that are removed during NHF Import, putting all of
the records in one table will reduce the number of records to process
because more duplicates will be removed. - If this file contains duplicate entries that are removed during
NHF Import then sort the records as follows: Select the "Sort"
option from the tools menu. Sort the table by Last Name, First Name,
and ICD code. - Save the record in CSV format by first selecting the "Save As"
option from the file menu. - In the "Save As" dialog box:
- Select the "CSV (Comma delimited)(*.csv)" option in the "Save as
type" field. - Change the save location in the "Save in" field if desired.
- Change the file name in "File name" field if desired.
- Click the "Save" button to save the file as a CSV file.
- Select the "CSV (Comma delimited)(*.csv)" option in the "Save as
- A dialog box may be displayed that states, The selected file type
does not support workbooks that contain multiple sheets. Click the "OK"
button to save only the active sheet. - A dialog box may be displayed that states, The file may contain
features that are not compatible with CSV. Click the "Yes" button
to keep this format. - Close Excel. A dialog will be displayed that asks "Do you want
to save the changes you have made". Click the "No" button to
continue closing the program. - The file is now ready to be imported into the NHF program in
the same manner as any other import file.
