Running CDC GenEDITS Plus on NAACCR Data


  1. Download Correct GenEdits executable, Metafile and Config File for GenEdits Plus (Main Download Site)
  2. Copy Downloaded Metafile to C:\RegPlus\GenEDITSplus\metafiles
  3. Copy Downloaded Config Files to C:\RegPlus\GenEDITSplus\config
  4. Generate NAACCR output file from CPDMS.NET
    1. Login to CPDMS.NET
    2. Choose Data Analysis -> Manage Study Groups
    3. Create a Study Group or Select One already created, Choose "Select Group 1"
    4. Choose the "Export" Tab
    5. Choose Record Type: Confidential
    6. Uncheck Generate HIPAA Log, Click Submit
    7. Wait until "Loading..." changes to a Download button, click Download and save the file somewhere safe like the J: drive.
  5. Run GenEdits Plus and Generate Edits Report
    1. Launch GenEDITS Plus Icon on Desktop
    2. Setup ID and Sort Fields
      1. Choose "Report Configuration" tab
      2. In the list on the far left, select "Social Security Number" and click the arrow pointing to the right closest to that list
      3. In the list on the far left, select "Registry ID" and click the arrow pointing to the right closest to that list
      4. Select "Social Security Number" from the list in the middle and click the right arrow button to the right of that list
      5. Select "Registry ID" from the list in the middle and click the right arrow button to the right of that list
      6. The screen should look like this:

    3. Setup Metafile Selections
      1. Choose "Metafile Selections" tab
      2. Click "Select Configuration" and choose one of the configuration files downloaded in Step 2
        • for OSDE we use the "NPCR NAACCR Core Edits" configuration file
      3. Click "Select Metafile" and choose one of the metafiles downloaded in Step 2 (This may have been automatically selected when the configuration file was chosen)
        • for OSDE we use the "Coordinated_Call_for_Data" metafile
      4. Choose a Record Layout by checking a box in the Record Layouts list
        • there should be a choice that has the word "CONFIDENTIAL" or "CFD" in it
      5. Choose One or more Edit Sets by checking boxes in the Edit Sets list
        • for OSDE, we use "NPCR Advanced Edits" and "NPCR/NAACCR Core Edits"
    4. Run Edits
      1. Choose "Select File and Run" tab
      2. Click "Browse" button and select the datafile downloaded in step 5.g.
      3. Click "Run EDITS" button
